In 2013, after many years of seeing clients somewhat improve, but continue to struggle, Lydia began to ask the question. “Is there more that I should be doing to help my clients?”

During this time, Lydia was introduced to formational prayer counseling. With this type of counseling, the client explores the underlying reasons for his or her negative thoughts, feelings, or behaviors. These sessions often point to the root cause–past traumas, relationship woundings, unmet needs, or unprocessed grief. Once these issues are identified, the rest of the sessions are spent helping the client connect to God and learning to surrender to God’s healing process. When Lydia began implementing this practice, she saw vast improvements in clients. They got better and started to experience true healing. They began to maintain a healthy sense of well-being from this new place of wholeness.

These positive results caused Lydia to want to learn more about how to help people on their spiritual journey with the Lord. As a result, she received training in Spiritual Direction, which means coming alongside a person, helping them see, experience, and communicate with God in their everyday lives.

Just as Lydia completed Spiritual Direction training, she experienced a personal trauma-significant complications with the birth of her first child, where she almost died. This trauma caused her to begin training as a doula. She went on to have two more difficult births, with the most recent ending in the loss of her infant son due to a rare birth defect. This has caused her to extend her expertise to include being a bereavement doula, which is someone who supports and helps families who are experiencing the loss of their baby, whether it’s through miscarriage, stillbirth, or a fatal diagnosis. Her desire is to advocate and support grieving mothers on their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.

Lydia is married and has three children. She is currently licensed in Wisconsin. All her sessions are virtual.
